1960s – Changing Repertoire

The Band’s repertoire began to change with less music specifically written for brass band and more arrangements of music from other sources. Towards the end of the decade instrumental versions of chart hits began to feature in concert and fete programmes.
To mark the 50th Anniversary a new set of instruments was purchased in 1969 at a cost of £3,000. Compare this to today’s price of over £60,000. The money was raised by concerts and all kinds of fund raising events organised by The Ladies’ Committee and later by a Supporters’ Association.
Bandmaster: Reg Dutfield (1960‑69)
Bandroom: The Barracks, Cecily Hill (1960‑69)
