1940s – War & Reforming

In 1941, during the Second World War, the Band’s instruments were put into store as many of the players went to join the war effort.

In 1947 the band reformed as, once again, members returned from the services. The band asked prominent members of the town’s business community to act as it’s Trustees. Jim Loveday of Loveday & Loveday and Fred Hope who owned the foundry in Watermoor were the first two. Jim Loveday later donated a cup to the Band which continues to be awarded at each Band AGM and he remained a Trustee until his death in 2009.

We do not have a picture of the band known to have been taken in the 1940s; if you have such a picture we would like to hear from you.

Bandmasters: G Churchman (1940‑41), Sidney Cooke (1947‑49)

Bandrooms: Temperance Hall, Thomas Street (1940‑41); The Barracks, Cecily Hill (1947‑49)
